Crime Down 21% Year to Date

Suisun City – We are pleased to announce that overall crime for the Mid-year (January 1, 2012-June 31, 2012) is down 21% from this time last year!  Burglaries, which had seen a large increase the previous year, are down 49%. Likewise, robberies are down 58%.   The only increase was in Auto Thefts which went up by 19%.

Chief Dadisho attributed the decrease in crime to the community groups in the City who are more engaged in policing efforts and the Department’s proactive law enforcement style.   “Our patrol officers have been more proactive, arresting so many burglars and other criminals.  They are also being much more visible – which deters crimes from even taking place.  Our Code Enforcement officers have been busy cleaning up neighborhoods so they don’t become blight, and our crime prevention and community involvement efforts are paying off because more and more people call dispatch when they see suspicious activity.  Our Dispatchers are also part of this mix because all the calls come through them and they put out that great information that our line officers use to catch the suspect, ” said Chief Dadisho.

National Night Out 2012

Suisun City — The Suisun City Police Department would like to invite citizens to the 29th Annual National Night Out Celebration. One night a year, everyone in the community is invited to join with friends and neighbors in block parties across Suisun City to focus on public safety awareness and basic safety prevention techniques. It’s all part of National Night Out 2012 a nationwide effort to build safer communities.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anticrime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and to send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and united in preventing crime, and taking back our neighborhoods.

From 5 – 8 p.m. on August 7th Suisun Police Department will be hosting a community block party at Carl E. Hall Park located at 609 Pintail Drive between the Suisun City Library, the Fire Department and the Salvation Army “KROC” Center. This night will bring together organizations committed to promoting community unification. There will be informational booths and safety demonstrations by local public safety agencies as well as children’s fingerprinting, jump houses, train rides, youth games and activities. All residents are invited to attend and join in the festivities.

In addition to the community block party, various Neighborhood Watch groups will too be hosting localized block parties for there areas. City Leaders, Fire Fighters and Police Officers will visit such parties throughout the evening.
Join your Neighborhood Watch in this celebration; if you do not have an active watch in your neighborhood there could not be a better time to hold your first meeting, so lock your doors, turn on your outside light and spend the evening with your neighbors, your friends and your public safety officials.

Copper Thieves Target Street Lights

SUISUN CITY, Calif. – Copper thieves are once again stripping street lights of their wiring in Suisun City, and the public’s help is needed to catch these criminals and safeguard our street lighting.

On April 17, the Police Department reported four street lights were not working on Railroad Avenue near Village Drive. When Public Works crews responded, they discovered the wiring had been cut and stolen from the conduit between the street lights, and found that additional lights also were affected.

Replacing street light wiring is both time-consuming and very expensive. The City does not have equipment necessary to rewire the lights so a private contractor must be hired, which is an unbudgeted expense.

For a period of more than a year, copper thieves have been stealing wiring from street lights on Walters Road and in the Peterson Ranch subdivision.

Residents should watch for unusual activity near street lights poles particularly during evening hours. Legitimate work on City street lights is normally conducted during the daytime by crews with vehicles and uniforms bearing the City emblem, PG&E logos, or a contractor employed by the City.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity is encouraged to immediately call the Police Department at 707-421-7373.

Press Release – Shots Fired

Suisun City – On 3/26/12 at approximately 1907 hours, the Suisun City Police Department received a report of shots fired in the 600 block of Fulmar Drive. Officers responded and determined that no one had been hit, but found numerous bullet casings in the street. According to witnesses, shots were fired from the suspect vehicle towards the victim’s vehicle. The rounds did not hit the victim’s vehicle, but did hit a parked car, shattering the back window.

The case is currently under investigation and officers are following up on leads. Anyone with information is asked to contact Commander Tim Mattos at (707) 421-7373.

Advisory: Vehicle Vandalisms

During the month of January, the Suisun City Police Department responded to a large number of vandalisms in which vehicle and residential windows were damaged by a BB or pellet. It is unknown if the responsible subject(s) are shooting out windows from a vehicle or while walking through neighborhoods. No residents have been injured during these incidents, however property has been damaged. Please be aware of any suspicious persons in your neighborhoods and report them to the Police Department.

If you have any information about these crimes, please call the Suisun City Police Department at 707-421-7373.

Advisory: Holiday Residential and Auto Burglaries

Police often see an increase in residential burglaries over a period of several weeks leading up to Christmas.  A common method for burglars is to arrive in a neighborhood and look normal.  They casually walk up to residences and knock to ensure no one is home.  If, however, someone answers, the burglars simply give a plausible explanation.  With no answer, burglars force entry most often to the side garage door.  The message here is to communicate with your neighbors to get everyone on the same page in immediately reporting vehicles and people arriving who are unfamiliar to the area.

Other targets favored by burglars are vehicles that clearly have property inside.  Burglars canvass neighborhoods day and night and casually glance into vehicles.  Once property is seen, burglars wait for the right opportunity and then take it.  The message here is to not give burglars such an easy target.  It only takes seconds to break into vehicles.  And, as mentioned above, citizens are encouraged to immediately phone the police when suspicious or unfamiliar people are seen loitering around.

Advisory: Alarm Calls – Burglary

Patrol has experienced some troubling alarm calls recently.  The first involves delayed calls from the alarm companies to the police.  These delays were learned after the calls were cleared and some investigation had been done.  The obvious problem with delayed calls is that the burglars were afforded time to escape.  The message here is to contact your alarm company to ensure they know our dispatch center’s phone number (707-421-7373) and that their protocol is to immediately phone us when alarms activate.

The second troubling issue involves alarm companies phoning homeowners first.  The homeowners were at work, so they phoned family members to respond and check the homes without notifying the police. The obvious problems here are the delays as described in advisory#1 along with a very dangerous situation created. The police responded in a tactical manner and found people on scene who they initially thought were burglars.  The message here is to let the police do their job and ensure the residence is safe.
